2011 New Location - Versatility Fun Day

The NEMHC Versatility Fun Day held on June 6th was a great success. It was a beautiful day and we had a superb location at the Farm of Barb & Gene Garrod in Manchester, PA.

With a large number of youth riders the day was filled with laughter and excitement with a lot of hooting and hollering to cheer on our friends.  A great time was had by both our youth and our youth at heart.  Most of our adult riders were relieved that most of the classes had a separate adult division, as the youth riders certainly showed outstanding horsemanship and ability.

Between our morning and afternoon sessions we all enjoyed a pot luck lunch and getting to know new friends and visiting with our old ones.  We had several club members who came to support and watch the event and socialize with other club members. It was a great and enjoyable day for everyone with or without a horse.

Thank you to all our riders and all the volunteers who made this day possible.  An extra special Thank You to club members Barb & Gene Garrod who’s facility was perfect for our Fun Day and for all the time and work they put into getting the grounds in outstanding condition for our event.

Barb and Gene have extended an invitation to the club to use this facility again for our upcoming Paper Chase Trail Ride on August 4th, please see flier in July newsletter.  I look forward to seeing everyone there.

2010 - Versatility Fun Day Recap

By:  MERCY MELO

Versatility Fun Day is a great show for beginners and expert riders.  It is so great because people don’t have to pressure themselves to win as long as they try their best.  It is also great because youth riders get a chance to win because in some classes they are judged separately from the adults.  So everybody got 1 ribbon with each event.  Expert riders challenged themselves with the timed events and the beginning riders can try with the easier events such as Simon Says or egg and spoon , and there were so many other activities like musical stalls, flag race, boot race, apple bobbing (for the horses), barrel bending, and trail obstacle.  Well anyway like I said, Versatility Fun Day is an awesome show that anyone would like and I hope next year there will be more people, especially youth because this year we only had 3 youth:  Jacquie, my brother Sal and myself.

We had a great time at the Versatility Fun Show.  It was an opportunity for all of us, horses and humans, to be in the show ring and have fun!  The people in this club are wonderful to spend time with.  Everyone is so pleasant, helpful and encouraging.  We had a great day together as a family and enjoyed being with some really special people.  We hope to meet more members of the club next year!                         Monica Melo
